WOW – I am moving
in with Michelle & Lorrie – their breakfast was amazing. Fresh
Fruit, Yoghurt, Sausages and the best hash browns I've ever eaten!
YUMMY!! Apparently tomorrow they are making their famous Blueberry
pancakes – YEAH BABY – bring that on!!
We made a quick move
into the car to head our way up to Telegraph Junction which is a
2.5hr drive north of Campbell River. The day ws very ordinary. Very
wet – the rain just didn't let up. Very low lying clouds the whole
way.
Telegraph Junction
was like how we thought Campbell River was going to be – an old
fishing village with a quaint boardwalk and gorgeous little houses.
The rain was bad so we had a coffee and looked around at the little
shops for a while, till our boat came in and we made our way onto it.
Steve and I found
our place on the back deck as far out of the rain as possible. Most
of the other people (all German) stayed inside where it was warm and
dry (they are not silly).
We saw our first
humpback whale about 20mins into the 5 hour trip. She came right up
and under the boat, so we got some good tail shots of her. That was
about it. The rest of the time we were in constant rain and drizzle
and chasing a few humpbacks.
Not an Orca to be seen – very
disappointed about that. We did see some Seals and a few dolphins,
and a couple of eagles far off in the distance.
Met some lovely
people on the boat and one lovely lady from Oregon! :)
Steve stayed out in
the rain the whole time. I came in and out of cover. Unfortunately
Steve's camera was NOT happy about the excess moisture and decided to
stop working. So we raced back to Michelle & Lorries to get the
hair dryer on it.
Not before we had
dinner at the Coachman Pub – an Ye Olde English pub – held a lot
of promise and I am sure it would have been nice, but alas we weren't
served for over 30mins and the meal wasn't the most ideal. I let the
head waitress know it took so long etc, but she didn't care. That
was the worst service we've encountered – so not bad odds in
reality.
Hair dryer going
non-stop on the camera, and it is not looking good. I feel sick in
the stomach for Steve. Tomorrow we've spent a lot of money to do
this Grizzly Bear tour, and to think he wont be able to take any
photos is just so damn frustrating and disappointing. Keep your
fingers crossed that we get it dried out and working overnight.
